Adeeb Razzouk is a Syrian multidisciplinary artist whose work emerges from the lived experience of displacement, exile and creative survival. After leaving Syria for Lebanon during the civil war, he began writing diaries that later became the foundation for Papers from the Citadel. His practice blends movement, text, sound and visual media to explore memory, trauma and the imaginative strategies that sustain people in crisis. Razzouk’s work is marked by emotional precision, poetic fragmentation and a deep commitment to bearing witness. Now based in Australia, he continues to develop performance works that illuminate the inner worlds of those shaped by conflict and forced migration.
Papers from the Citadel
Papers from the Citadel is a haunting multimedia performance set within a surreal inner chamber where a man awakens in a room with no doors and only a single window. Drawn from Adeeb Razzouk’s wartime diaries, the work explores exile, waiting, fractured memory and the fragile architectures of survival. Through movement, spoken text, projection and sound, the Citadel becomes a psychological refuge built in displacement, a place where imagination resists erasure.
